We know this, we each get one lap around the track. What we don’t know is the length of that track, but we do know we do not get a chance to stop or go back to the starting line. We have all made mistakes. We have all had events that we wish we could do over. Nobody run the lap flawlessly, but what we take away from these mistakes can and do shape us and our experience. The question is do we run around our track running backwards, looking at what was, or do run looking forward, seeing what is ahead of us and being better every step?

The fundamentals of our journey are knowledge, skill and attitude. These three fundamentals guide us around our track. From the beginning we have been acquiring knowledge about, life, our world and our universe. We start learning the basics of life, then move into a formal education and then onto learning from life experience. There are 4 levels of knowledge. 1. Don’t know, 2. Know we don’t know, 3. Know about, 4. To know. The first is simple, we don’t know what we don’t know. the second is we know that we don’t know, the third is to know about, which can be dangerous, and finally is know, have the knowledge. Dedicating yourself to knowing is critical process to becoming your best self. The ultimate knowledge comes from not only understanding the what you know, but understanding the why behind it. We will focus on the what AND the why to help expand your ability to become your best self.

Skills are the how we do things. The are many areas of skills. Programming a computer, engineering the construction of building, driving a truck, hitting a ball are all skills. But so are coping, handling stress, developing effective routines and habits are also skills. Physical skills are inherent and are developed. Behavioral skills are learned and reinforced. We work hard on skill development when it comes to doing something, but tend to neglect on minimize of focus and attention to our behavioral skills. Becoming your best self requires that you learn and understand how the behavioral skills contribute to your own self development.

Attitude is how we approach and see things through our mindset and emotions. Attitude is the energy that we apply to our journey. Attitude is either positive or negative, courageous or fearful, hopeful or desperate. Attitude influence both knowledge and skill. Attitude is the deciding factor of the experience we will have on journey at any given moment. Attitude will always either help or hinder our attempts to become your best self.
